A star of programming has fell. And the programming sky is a whole lot silent now. Ian Murdock, the founder of Debian Linux and the creator of Apt-get, has left the mortal coil.
This death comes as a big blow to the savants of software community as they have lost their colleague. He was 42 years old.
The Docker website, reported the programmers’ death. The same website where Murdock was working as part of the technical staff.
The cause of the death is unknown. Though Murdock tweeted that he would commit suicide the same night, his twitter handle has since been deleted.
The authenticity of the tweet is under question as several are claiming the account was hacked.
Murdocks’ Tweets from Monday seems to suggest that he has been in a police case and is charged with battery. Though, this was not immediately confirmed either by the cops nor Murdock.
A few words in mourning
Ian Murdock developed the Debian Linux in 1993, the “ian” in the Debian comes from his own name. In the past, he worked for Sun Microsystems and as a CTO for Linux Foundation. We of the Linux community deeply regret his loss.
